FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an international robotics program that has attracted hundreds of thousands of elementary and middle school students to engineering and computer science. FLL teams design, build, and program autonomous LEGO MINDSTORMS robots to compete in a tabletop robot game. But, FLL is more than robots. FLL teams also conduct and present the results of a scientific research project based on a well-defined theme of societal importance. In this session, you will learn the processes of FIRST LEGO League and how you would go about creating your own team. I will begin by describing the processes that FLL teams follow during a season (including creating and registering a team). This description will include examples of recent themes and robot games. With the time remaining, I will provide an introduction to the construction and programming of LEGO MINDSTORMS robots. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring a Windows PC laptop.
